Our farm

Blacker Hall Farm has been in the same family for four generations. What began as a working
farm continues today with the same principles: care for the land, respect for
livestock, and a belief that food should be produced properly.

About our farm

About our farm

At Blacker Hall Farm, farming is guided by experience and long-term thinking. Decisions are made with care, balancing generations of knowledge with a clear, practical understanding of what works.

Seasonality and local sourcing are not additions to the process; they are the foundation it has always been built on.

Farming through the generations

Farming through the generations

This is a fourth-generation family farm, shaped over time by a commitment to doing things properly. Since becoming part of the Garthwaite family in 1901, it has evolved with care and intent. What began as a farming enterprise connected to the family’s brewing heritage, has developed into a fully integrated farm-to-fork operation, where livestock, Butchery, Bakery and food production are all closely managed on-site.

That level of control matters. It allows quality, provenance and traceability to be understood at every stage, rather than assumed. To the process; they are the foundation it has always been built on.

There is a steady rhythm to the work. Land is managed responsibly, livestock is reared with attention and respect, and produce is prepared with consistency in mind. Nothing is rushed, and nothing is left to chance. That discipline ensures standards remain reliable, year after year.

Produce and service you can trust

Today, the farm continues to be run by the family, with farming, food production and retail working together. All beef comes directly from the farm, where well-bred cattle are reared and cared for with attention to both welfare and flavour. Crops are grown across the surrounding land to support the livestock and supply the wider food offering, while trusted local farmers contribute to maintaining consistent standards.

For customers, the experience is straightforward. There is no need to question where food comes from or how it has been prepared. The work behind the scenes has already been done, with knowledge guiding each decision.
